A retired New York City police officer was arrested outside of the U.S. Capitol on Friday after he was found in possession of a fake law enforcement Badge and other items.

The ex-cop was seen by a Capitol patrol officer before dawn. There is a car parked on the west side of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Felipe presented the Capitol police officers who spoke with him with a fake identity card.

The international police organization is called INTERPOL.

Felipe stated that he was a criminal investigator with the agency.

After he gave police permission to search his vehicle, they found a gun, two vests, high-capacity magazines, and other items.

Police said there were no real guns.

Police said that investigators are trying to determine why Felipe parked near the Capitol.

When asked about Felipe, a spokesman for the New York Police Department told CNBC, "The individual retired in 2018?"

The spokesman said that they are cooperating with the investigation.

Felipe was not given permission to carry a gun as many NYPD cops are when they retire because he retired on disability, according to a senior NYPD official.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service maintains an online database that contains information about Felipe being removed from the NYPD. He was removed from his job because of a regulation related to his resignation or retirement.

The Capitol was attacked by a group of people. Lawmakers were disrupted as they confirmed President Joe Biden's election.

More than a dozen active-duty and retired police officers were arrested for participating in the invasion of the Capitol.

A jury in Washington convicted a former NYPD officer of attacking a DC police officer during the riots. The cop was attacked with a pole while holding a flag.
