There were distressing events that marred the build-up to the final between Real Madrid andLiverpool.

The European football's governing body announced on Tuesday that it had launched an independent review into the access issues that led to fans being crushed and tear-gassed outside the Stade de France in Paris.

The match was delayed more than 30 minutes after officers forcefully held back people trying to enter the stadium while riot police sprayed tear gas on fans.

"UEFA wishes to sincerely apologize to all spectators who had to experience frightening and distressing events in the build-up to the final at the Stade de France on May 28," it read.

Football fans shouldn't be put in that situation again.

The terms of reference for the Independent Review have now been published.

UEFA apology

The Independent Review will aim to understand what happened in the build-up to the final and determine what lessons should be learned to prevent a repeat of that day.

Real Madrid have called on authorities to explain why fans were left without assistance at the final.

Real, who won the trophy for a record 14th time, want to know why the stadium was chosen to host the match after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Spanish side said their supporters were victims of the unfortunate events that took place, and that the scenes had caused deep outrage around the world.

Some of the fans had to spend the night in hospital after they were attacked and robbed, according to Real's statement.

Real Madrid

Billy Hogan, the premier league club's chief executive, said this week that he was horrified by the amount of feedback received about last week's game.

The delayed kick-off was blamed on fans arriving late to the stadium, while the French sports minister accused the fans of letting out in the wild.

Michael Cadot, the inter-ministerial delegate for large sports events, was asked to produce the report within 10 days.

Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan says he wants to see an independent investigation into the issues experienced by supporters at the Champions League final

Hogan said that he had spoken to his counterpart at Real Madrid, who made it clear that their fans also had issues.

There were major concerns with the matchday operation. I know they want to make sure this is an open investigation.

The chief executive said that the club wrote to the European governing body again on Thursday with 13 questions they wanted answered about the investigation into events at the final.

French blame 'fraud' for CL chaos

Gerald Darmanin, the French interior minister, blamed fraud at an industrial level for the chaos at the final.

When the match was supposed to start, 97 percent of the Spanish supporters were present, but only 50 of the British supporters got into their section.

70% of the tickets were fake and there was massive fraud to an industrial level and organization of fake tickets.

French police used tear gas against Liverpool fans, stewards tried to hold back crowds with wheelie bins. Sky News has combed through footage from the Champions League final to find out what actually happened on that night

More than 2,600 tickets were non-validated even though they had gone through the first filters, as 15 per cent of them were fake.

There were delays due to the huge presence of fake tickets. More than half of the 29 people who were arrested within the Stade de France were British.

Up to 40,000 people had fake tickets or no tickets at all, according to Oudea-Castera.

She apologized to the people who were deprived of a match because they had bought tickets. We have asked for the people to be identified so that we can compensate them.

The main point is to understand exactly what happened during the fraud. More than 30,000 to 40,000 people without tickets or with fake tickets have been seen. Some controls didn't notice that the tickets were fake.

We want to know what happened, why, how and to what extent. We're waiting for the quick setting off of the inquiry after we've heard our request.

"First of all, what happened was this mass gathering of the British supporters of theLiverpool club, without tickets, or with fake tickets," she told French radio.

The UK culture secretary Nadine Dorries called for a formal investigation into what caused the chaos.

'Treat French claims about fans with extreme caution'

Sky Sports News' chief reporter spoke.

The French explanation doesn't account for what I saw. There was a meeting between the French sports minister, the French interior minister, and the Paris police chief. The police chief had been asked what happened on Saturday. France is embarrassed by this. It wasn't a good one.

Look at all the bad news. The Rugby World Cup will be hosted by them. They are going to host the Olympics in twenty four years. I think he has passed the blame for the fake tickets on to the fans.

Liverpool supporters show their tickets as they struggle to get into the Champions League final
Sky Sports News' chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol says the events outside the Stade de France do not tally with what French interior minister Gerald Darmanin considered fraud

There were some fake tickets. I didn't see anything that looked like an industrial fraud operation. I didn't have fans of the other team come up to me and say they were upset that they bought fake tickets.

They were complaining about the way they were being treated. The police in France were treating them like animals.

The French authorities, the stadium authorities, and the French police were all to blame for the disorganized event. We were in a situation where 20,000 people showed up at the stadium up to five hours before the game and they were asked to wait in a confined space and there was only one person who could get through.

At this meeting, there were no Real Madrid supporters and noLiverpool supporters. There were no fake tickets I saw. I would be very careful with what was said.

Kaveh Solhekol says that he and members of his Sky Sports production crew have been tear-gassed by French police outside the Stade de France

No one came up to me and said, "I was sold a fake ticket." I have wasted a lot of money on this. Some people were very upset because they were being treated badly by the police in France. That is what I've seen. Women and children were tear-gassed.

There were a lot of problems at the Real Madrid end according to the Real Madrid supporters I talked to. On social media, you're asking why there were only problems at the Real Madrid end, while there were only problems at theLiverpool end.

It wasn't the case. The Real Madrid end of the ground was sprayed with pepper spray.

There were issues at the Real Madrid end of the ground. Many young people from France got into the Real Madrid end of the ground. Many Real Madrid fans were mugged and attacked after the game, so it was not all good at the Real Madrid end of the ground.
