In the commercial, where she asks the crew member at the A380 bar "hey, is there someone we can talk to about maybe flying this around a bit longer before we land?", she mentions that she wants someone to talk to. I felt that way after flying from New York to Milan on the A380.
I flew first class from New York to Milan on Tuesday night and it left me with a very different feeling.
The majority of flights from the U.S. to Dubai take between 12 and 16 hours, which is plenty of time to enjoy. There are so many things to do in first class, from the inflight shower, to the onboard bar, to incredible drinks and solid food.
Two routes between the United States and Europe are operated by Emirates. The flight leaves at 11 PM and arrives at 12PM the next day.
The issue presented is a real one.
You can party a bit, then get a good night's sleep, and shower when you are in first class on a flight. The experience between New York and Milan is not as good as it could be.
In order to enjoy this flight, I had to check all the A380 features while still getting some rest, but I think we hit the right balance. I will share the approach we took, but not the same approach.
Pre-departure water was what we began with. We didn't order champagne because Dom Perignon can't be served until after the door closes on flights out of the US.
First class food at Emirates isn't that great, aside from some staple items. The Dom Perignon was the first thing we began with.
We were offered a double since there were only five seats left.
The Arabic mezze is very good.
We could have eaten a full meal, but I don't like to eat too much before I go to sleep. We returned to the business class bar. Since all the business class passengers were back at their seats, it was the perfect time to go as an isolated person.
We had a cocktail at the bar. It is against the law to fly first class and not have a sip of the world's most expensive beverage.
We got a good three hours of sleep when we took a nap.
We decided to shower first thing in the morning. Since they were available, we ended up showering earlier than we had planned.
Breakfast time was when it happened. I ate fruit and yogurt and thought I would just order waffles for pictures.
We were on our way to Milan.
We were able to check most of the items off the list, and woke up feeling refreshed and not hungover. That is a great balance to strike on a flight.
I was able to fly first class between New York and Milan for the first time. It was weird to not be in the air for more than 12 hours while flying out of the U.S. I believe we hit the right balance.
How would you enjoy this flight? Do you want to sleep the whole way or party the whole way?
