A lightcycle in Tron: Legacy

There is a chance that a third movie will get made. Things happen in Hollywood. At some point someone runs out of recognizable intellectual property and wonders what else they have left.

It was directed by Joseph Kosinski. It was a hit and had enough fans to start work on a sequel. We got bread crumbs about it every few months. It would come back as recently as March 2022, when potential starJared Leto said work is continuing on some version of a thirdTron.

Kosinski went on to make a number of other films. He said that Disney found more reliable, bankable sci-fi franchises and that the third tron didn't happen because of that. Most of the time, it's Star Wars andMarvel.

I was so close. In an excellent, long-form interview, Kosinski said he tried. Disney pulled the plug on it in 2015. I storyboarded and wrote the entire movie. The idea of it being all that stuff coming into our world and it being about the blend of the two was exciting to me. By the year 2015, it was different. They didn't own Star Wars and they didn't own Marvel. Fantasy and science fiction were what we were made for. It makes sense to put your money into a property that is well known and not an art student with black fingernails in the corner. That is alright.

Had the movie been a hit, Disney would have moved on. There was interest because Kosinski was able to write and storyboard the whole thing. The sequel to a film that cost almost $200 million but only made $400 million is less important than the ones that cost billions.

Kosinski seems to be okay about it. I would not have made Only the Brave and the movies I made. The firstTron was not a hit when it was released. This is a cult classic. I couldn't be more excited about it.

His latest film, Spiderhead, is coming to the streaming service later this month and it is already a hit. You can find a full timeline of the movie at this link.
