President Joe Biden praised some of Musk's competitors for expanding their investments in electric vehicles while brushing off Musk's reported "super bad feeling" about the U.S. economy.
Biden referred to Musk as a frequent critic of his administration. Biden said that he had a lot of luck on the moon.
After speaking in Delaware, the president was asked about Musk. The unemployment rate held at 3.6% in May as the U.S. economy added 385,000 jobs.
According to the report, Musk told executives in an email that he would need to cut 10% of the company's workforce. The shares of the company fell.
Biden heaped praise on Ford and Stellantis when asked about Musk.
While Musk is talking about that, Ford is increasing their investment overwhelmingly, according to Biden.
He said that Ford and the former Chrysler corporation are making similar investments in electric vehicles.
Intel plans to create 20,000 new jobs in Ohio as part of an investment.
Biden said that he had a lot of luck on his trip to the moon.
A request for comment was not responded to by Musk. Within minutes of Biden's remark, Musk wrote "Thanks Mr. President!" along with a NASA announcement that his company had been selected to land the next Americans on the moon.
One of the world's richest people is in the midst of a deal to purchase a company. He shared a message last month that said he would vote Republican.
Musk has been critical of both the White House and Biden himself, and the president's put-down marked the latest point of tension.
In March, Musk bristled after Biden's State of the Union address cheered the electric-vehicle efforts being made by Ford and GeneralMotors while failing to mentionTesla.
Musk told CNBC that nobody is watching the State of the Union.
The Biden administration was slammed by Musk two months later.
A spokesman for Biden said that an anti-labor billionaire would look for any opportunity to nip at the heels of the most pro- union and pro-worker President in modern history.
