Tesla CEO Elon Musk attends the opening of the Tesla factory Berlin Brandenburg in Gruenheide, Germany on March 22, 2022.

According to reports, the company has been keeping a close eye on its employees' social media activity, as well as discussions about unfair labor practices and a sexual harassment lawsuit. According to documents obtained by CNBC, Musk's electric vehicle company paid a public relations firm to try to get their employees to unionize.

The work assigned to MWW PR was done when the push for the union was happening. Invoices and other documents show that MWW PR was paid byTesla to monitor a Facebook group for its employees and to keep a lookout for comments on union organization efforts, as well as keep close tabs on union organizers. A female engineer was fired from the company after filing a sexual harassment claim. Musk has been accused of exposing his penis and offering to buy a horse for sex by an employee of his company.

According to current employees, the company is still watching their social media activity. According to the company's communications policy obtained by CNBC, managers are not allowed to access employees' social media pages unless there is a specific work related reason.

The company has been accused of trying to squash the union efforts of its employees. The National Labor Relations Board decided in March of 2021 that the company had violated U.S. labor law for trying to interfere with the push for a union. Musk caused a stir when he said that employees could lose their stock options if they chose to unionize. A union activist was fired by the company last year.

The documents regarding social media monitoring by the company come at a time when Musk is in the midst of a $44 billion deal to buyTwitter, a social media platform that the billionaire has been obsessed over for its alleged violation of free speech. Musk told his employees that if they didn't return to work full-time, they would be fired.
