Amazon

The first three episodes of The Boys season 3 have been made available on Amazon, and the rest of them will be made available weekly.

The Boys is getting early reviews and they seem to like it.

Here is how season 3 of The Boys stacks up compared to the previous two seasons.

  • Season 1 – 85% critics score, 89% audience score
  • Season 2 – 97% critics score, 79% audience score
  • Season 3 – 97% critics score, 89% audience score

It's clear that this is another stellar season for what has become Amazon's flagship series, with an infinite green light ahead and space for one or more spin-offs.

Rotten Tomatoes

Amazon Prime Video has had less hits than its competitors, but they have gotten a few knockout punches. Another record-setting success was Reacher. The four-season performance of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was very good.

The Boys has created a high profile superhero universe separate from DC and the others. With an immensely talented cast and no limits on how far they can push the adult content of the series, the show has blasted off the past three years with no signs of slowing down.

Dropping three episodes then releasing weekly is a good way to go. It's not unusual for a show to debut with huge numbers and then no one is talking about it even a week later. The Boys will be the topic of discussion every Friday going forward, including episode six called "Herogasm" which will be released in the fall. You will understand. You will understand.

I expect to see Amazon riding this wave for as long as they possibly can, including hopefully crafting spin-offs that are up to the same standard, but we will have to wait and see.
