Go to the dark side if you don't succeed the first time. Josh McDaniels will attempt to do that in his second stint as the leader of an NFL team.

During his time with the Denver Broncos, the coach hopes to make the most of his second chance. He has a better grasp of his responsibilities when he returns to theAFC West.

According to The Athletic'sVic Tafur, the father of Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels believes his son took the Raiders job at a better time in his career than when he became the Broncos head coach.

"As an NFL observer, I think a lot of NFL first-time coaches may not want to be desperate to get their first opportunity, but sometimes they are. I think that Josh was. There was zero desperation about the second opportunity, and he’s had interviews and been part of the process more than once."

During his introductory press conference with the Raiders, it was brought up that he decided to stay with the New England Pats.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for (general manager) Chris Ballard, (Colts owner) Mr. (Jim) Irsay and their whole organization. "They were great. I think they ended up with the person they should have ended with (Frank Reich) and I ended up where I was supposed to be.”

He spoke about the lessons he learned from his time in Denver.

"When I went to Denver, I knew a little bit of football. I didn't really know people and how important that aspect of this process and maintaining the culture and building the team was. I failed, and I didn't succeed at it. Looking at that experience has been one of the best things in my life in terms of my overall growth as a person, as a coach."

He focused on the X's and O's but didn't pay much attention to the people in the building. He was fired by the Broncos at the end of the 2010 season after they lost 3-9 in a row.

What has changed now?

Strong bonds were formed with him in Vegas. He was hired as a pair by the Raiders. They were teammates at John Carroll University and worked with each other in the Broncos organization, which resulted in three Super Bowl titles.

When he was introduced to the media, he said that his relationship was built on honesty and respect.

Mick Lombardi, Patrick Graham, and Carmen Bricillo are among the new additions to the staff. He may be able to transition from New England to Las Vegas.

From 2012 to 2015, Graham held the defensive line and linebacker position coaching jobs, and Bricillo worked as a coaching assistant and offensive line coach.

He didn't have to make a hard decision on the quarterback situation when he was hired.

In 2010, the Broncos traded up for Tim Tebow, who flopped as a passer on the pro level, throwing for 2,383 yards, 17 touchdown and nine interception with a 47.3 percent completion rate.

Before he took the job, McDaniels was looking at Carr. According to Ian Rapoport, the Pats considered trading for Carr before the 21st century.

The Raiders signed Carr to a three-year, $120.5 million extension and added a no-trade clause after McDaniels said Carr would be their Week 1 starter.

A quarterback doesn't need to be molded into a pro. He has a three-time Pro Bowler who's thrown for 4,000-plus yards in each of the last four campaigns while completing at least 68.3% of his passes.

They didn't have to tear down a Raiders team that made the playoffs. Adding on to a playoff-caliber squad is what they did in March.

On successive days, the Raiders signed edge-rusher Chandler Jones and acquired wideout Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers. Both of them have ties to the team, which shows the importance of organizational synergy in the second stint of the coach.

Adams was a teammate of Carr's for two years at the college. Graham coached both levels of the front seven during Jones' time with the New England.

He started a rebuild project when he became the Broncos' leader. Brandon Marshall was moved to the Broncos after he had back-to-back Pro Bowl years. The team missed the playoffs for three years in a row before he arrived.

The core players in this year's playoffs are Carr, Hunter Renfrow, Maxx Crosby, and tight endDarren Waller. Two of the most accomplished veterans were added to his front office.

Jones is an upgrade over him because of their resume.

There is a different plan for building a winner than there was with the Broncos. The 46-year-old has tried to break away from the mold of the "patriot way" and create a new culture for his regime. Duron spoke about that on Good Morning Football.

Raiders safety Duron Harmon on new Vegas HC Josh McDaniels on @GMFB : "He's trying to create a culture that is not the Patriot Way."

In his own words, he said that he isn't trying to be a copy of the New England coach.

"I'm not Bill Belichick, and I can't be," he stated. I hope I can be a good leader for our team.

It is off to a great start.

Can you imagine a hockey game with a big smile on the coach's face?
