Jared Leto in a hoddie on the poster for morbius

The dead are saying something. Morbius, the Spider-Man spinoff, left first-run theaters weeks after it was released. On June 3, the film will be showing on over 1,000 screens in the U.S., according to the Box Office. Dr. Morbius is back at work.

Morbius has gained a cult following of fans who have been passionately getting behind the movie and making it trend on social media. The fact that this theatrical re-release is real makes it seem like Sony was aware of it.

We didn't like Morbius very much when it hit theaters. It felt like a film that didn't know what it wanted to tell and didn't have a lot to say. The excitement over a film we were told had ties to Spider-Man shot Morbius off at the box office with a very solid, near-40 million opening weekend. At the moment, it has made just over $73 million in the US and $90 million around the world. It is not a full-fledged bomb, but it is not what Sony had in mind when it cast Leto in the lead role.

Morbius isn't likely to make much headway this weekend because Top Gun: Maverick is doing so well at the box office. It could get to $75 million domestically. It is cool that fans who didn't see the movie in theaters now have a chance to see it.
