After reaching the French Open final, American teenager Coco Gauff called for peace and an end to gun crime.

After reaching a first Grand Slam singles final, the young woman wrote a message on a television camera.

In the moment, it felt right. Gauff hoped that it would get into the heads of the people in office.

Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in Texas last week.

A man killed four people at an Oklahoma hospital on Thursday.

Gauff wrote "Peace - end gun violence" on the lens at the end of her interview at the tournament.

I wasn't sure what I was going to write when I walked to the camera. World number 23 Gauff said it felt right to write that.

I woke up this morning and I thought it was crazy that there was another shooting.

Gauff says she feels comfortable speaking out for social change and named some athletes as her role models.

Gauff said, "I feel like a lot of times we're put in a box that people always say, 'politics and sports should stay separate'."

I'm a human before I'm a tennis player.

I will care about these issues and speak out about them.

Sports give you the chance to reach more people.

Gauff remembers having friends at the scene of the shooting at a high school in the state of Florida.

"I think that this is a problem in other parts of the world, but especially in America it's a problem that's been happening for a long time, but now it's getting more attention," said Gauff.

Even though I'm not a tennis player, it's still important to me.

Being in Europe and knowing people all over the world are watching it was important.

Gauff became the youngest finalist since Kim Clijsters in 2001 when he beat Italy's Martina Trevisan in the semifinals.

She will play Iga Swiatek in the final.

She has won her past 34 matches and five tournaments.

I'm going to play tennis and not worry about anything. "Anything can happen in a grand slam final," said Gauff.

She won't give you a lot of opportunities. She's always hitting winners and she does a great job of changing directions and hitting angles off the court.
