The team is likely to stay in Portland if Knight is in the ownership group. Knight is a graduate of the University of Oregon and has kept Nike in the state.
Paul Allen's trust left instructions that the team must be sold after his death. The team was expected to be put up for auction in the next 18 months because Jody Allen has run it.
The vice chair of the Blazers is said to be in charge of the sale of the team and wants $3 billion.
According to Forbes' list of the 50 most valuable sports teams in 2021, the Trail blazers are worth less than the Cleveland browns. The projected bid is still one of the highest prices for an NBA franchise in history.
