It is once again time for Apple to hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, where it shows off the latest versions of its operating systems for iPhone, Macs, watches, tablets, and TVs.

Is Apple planning any surprises with its new software? I dare say it's hardware or a virtual reality headset. We combed through the rumors to find out what to expect at Apple's keynote on June 6th.

iOS and iPadOS 16 could get a new coat of paint and better notifications

Mark Gurman, an Apple rumor reporter, has predicted that there will be fresh Apple apps in the next version of the operating system. Gurman predicts new ways of interacting with the mobile device operating system.

He pointed out that multitasking improvements could make the lineup better at being a laptop substitute.

WWDC usually sets the stage for September’s new iPhone

At the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple usually gives at least some hint as to what its future hardware could look like, but it won't say anything about the new phone. If Apple starts telling developers to prepare for a dynamic status bar, that would be a strong indication that the iPhone 14 Pro will ditch the notch.

According to Gurman, an always-on lock screen is possible in the next iteration of the operating system. It feels like something that is locked to the next-gen iPhone but that there will be hints about in the code. If he is correct in his predictions that the lock screen is gettingwidget-like capabilities, I think that is a good sign for the always-on display in the new phone. Gurman predicts that the feature will only be available on the iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 6S has gotten six updates, but that is bound to end at some point. Keep an eye out for any mention of accessibility updates from Apple. They will probably at least get a mention and a demo. It would be great to see someone use a live caption.

New versions of watchOS and macOS

There aren't a lot of rumors about watchOS, but Apple adds a lot of new features to the Apple Watch every year. The current power reserve mode only shows the time, but 9to5Mac believes that there could be a low-power mode that would offer more user-friendly features.

The accessibility features that Apple showcased earlier this month include expanded Assistive Touch gestures that will let you move your fingers to do things like end a call, take a picture, and control media. You can see and control your watch's screen from your phone. It seems likely that these features will be in watchOS 9 after Apple said they would be coming in software updates this year.

Rumors about what the next version of macOS will bring have been very sparse. It is possible that it will get the focus mode feature of the iPhone. We don't expect anything else other than support for...

Two new Macs

There is a rumor that Apple will introduce at least two new computers in the middle of the year. Apple is rumored to be working on a new Mac Pro, a refreshed laptop lineup, and a Mac Mini or two.

Apple’s current M1-powered MacBook Air could be on its way out.

There have been rumors of a redesign of the MacBook Air for a while, and Apple has promised a Mac Pro with Apple Silicon. It seems like it would be a good time for a WWDC announcement. It would be odd if Apple teased the Mac Pro at one event and didn't announce it at the next, since it's the conference where Apple gathers a lot of its pros and enthusiasts.

The Air wouldn't be out of place as one of Apple's more popular computers. It would not be possible for a Mac Mini to be equipped with an M2 Pro processor.

Yeah, about that.

The M2 could make its debut

According to the report, the potentially in-progress Macs are likely to feature Apple's next- generation Silicon. There isn't a lot of information on what the M2 will bring, but it's a good idea to attend a developer conference to get all the technical details.

The M1 design that Apple announced over a year and a half ago has been the basis of all of the new variations of the chip. According to the company, new computers would have to come with a new generation of chips since it has introduced new M1 chips.

Apple might announce its long-rumored AR / VR headset

It's more of a "don't be surprised if it shows up" pick. Every year, people predict that Apple will show off a headset, currently rumored to be capable of virtual and augmented reality, with an array of cameras, a chip that is about as powerful as a Mac, and dedicated software called RealityOS.

Rumors are flying that Apple is about to announce a new product after years of chaotic development. According to this report from a couple of weeks ago, Apple's board of directors recently got to try out the headset, something that typically happens before consumers get to see it.

There might have been delays that prevented Apple from introducing the headset at the conference. Some people think that Apple has already teased it by including a person in its Memoji iconography.

You should expect Apple to talk about augmented and virtual reality. Even if it isn't ready to show off the hardware, it's clearly a focus for the company Who is aware? It could be another One More Thing year.

Saying this is a headset hint is probably a stretch — unlike saying that it looks like the poster for 1995’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
