A still from Oni

"After School" is a programming push aimed at younger children, with Oni: TheThunder God's Tale, an animated show. The Dam Keeper, an Academy-Award nominated short film, was co- directed by Daisuke Tsutsumi.

One of the creatures free-spirited daughters tries to find adventure by playing by her own rules in a world of Japanese gods and monsters. Onari's powers are shrouded in mystery as she protects her village. The show will follow Onari as she tries to follow in the footsteps of ancient heroes and legends, even as mysterious demons call on her door.

There is something lovely about the animation of this trailer, which has a slightly choppy framerate for the characters as they bounce, fly, and run through the forest. There is a deeper connection with this animation style that speaks to traditional Eastern watercolor animation, even though it is obvious that it is inspired by stop- motion animation. If you want to learn more about this art style, which was developed in the 50s, lost soon after, and is being reinvented by Chinese animators, check out Animation Obsessive.

Tsutsumi said in a press release that the story of a brave girl caught between two worlds divided is a very personal one for him. Every one of these incredible talents from our dream list accepted with such passion and empathy for the story and collaborating with them has been inspiring. They have given souls to our characters and amazing performances for our animation team.

The streamer said that Oni would be available soon.
