Antonio Rudiger has signed a four-year deal with Real Madrid after completing a free transfer.
The Germany international, 29, has joined the new Spanish and European champion after rejecting attempts to extend his contract.
The initial fee of £29m was paid for by Rudiger when he moved to Chelsea.
He scored 12 goals and made 203 appearances for the Blues.
The club described him as one of the most passionate characters.
He was offered a contract worth more than $200,000 to stay at the club.
"We gave everything and now we enter a situation where we can't fight any more because of the sanctions and now Toni will leave," Thomas Tuchel said in April.
The UK government's sanction of Roman Abramovich, the club's former owner, resulted in restrictions on the club. The government claimed that he has strong ties to Putin.
A group led by American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital completed a takeover of the club in late May.
Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to stay at the club after a one-year extension was triggered in his contract earlier this season.
Fans will be able to see Rudiger on 20 June.
