Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, said the country would not give up land to Russia.
You cannot concede parts of your territory. Zelenska told Robin Roberts that it was like giving up a freedom.
She had her first solo TV interview since Russia invaded Ukraine.
The full interview will be broadcast on Thursday. ABC said that it was recorded in Ukraine.
Zelenska was asked if giving up land in the eastern Donbas region would be the way to get a peace agreement.
In May, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said that Ukraine should give up territory to Russia in exchange for peace.
Zelenskyy is the husband of Zelenska, and it sparked a wave of indignation from Ukrainians.
The idea of giving up territory was rejected by the US President. In a New York Times article published on Tuesday, Biden wrote that he would not pressure the Ukrainian government to make any territorial concessions. It would be wrong to do that.
Zelenska said that giving up land would not stop Putin.
Even if we would concede our territories, the aggressor would not stop.
He would continue pressing, he would launch more and more attacks against us.
Business Insider reported that the US would be sending more sophisticated military equipment to Ukraine, including advanced rocket systems.
US officials have said the equipment may take some weeks to arrive.
