According to a memo sent to staff this week, Musk told his workers to either return to the office or leave the company.

Musk wants the employees of the company to leave the house and go back to work.

The leaked memo has Musk's name on it, but he is yet to confirm that he sent the message. Musk responded to the inquiry by saying that the workers should pretend to work somewhere else.

The memo was sent to executives but appears to have instructions for all office staff.

Remote work is no longer accepted.

Anyone who wants to do remote work must be in the office for at least 40 hours per week.

If there are any exceptional contributors for whom working in the office is impossible, Musk writes, this is less than we ask of factory workers.

He says that the office must be a main one, not a remote one unrelated to the job duties, for example being in charge of human relations at the factory.

The subject line of the email seen by Electrek is "To be super clear."

Everyone has to work at least 40 hours a week in the office and if someone fails to show up at their usual place of work, we will assume they have resigned.

The more senior you are, the more visible you must be. I lived in the factory so that people on the line could see me working. If I hadn't done that,Tesla would have gone bankrupt.

When was the last time a new product was shipped by a company? It has been a while.

The memo says thatTesla will create and manufacture the most exciting and meaningful products of any company on Earth. This won't happen by calling it in.

A new era of hybrid working for desk-based employees was ushered in by the Pandemic.

The company that Musk is planning to acquire is likely to be concerned by Musk's office-only approach.

In response to the new way of doing things, the company is committed to truly flexible work, and CEO Parag Agrawal told his employees: "Wherever you feel most productive and creative is where you."

That could change if Musk's takeover bid goes through.
