  • The jury sided with Johnny Depp in the trial.

  • Heard lost because she wasn't believable on the stand and isn't as big a star.

  • The jurors loved him, the public loved him, and everyone on social media loved him.

The experts told Insider that Heard lost the case because she didn't come off as credible and lacked her ex-husband's star power.

In the trial, Heard was accused of ruining her reputation by insinuating in a Washington Post op-ed that she had been the victim of domestic violence. Heard spent several days on the stand detailing multiple incidents of physical and sexual assault she said she suffered during their relationship.

On Wednesday, the jury in the case largely sided with Depp, finding that Heard defamed him on all three statements that she was sued over, and awarded him a total of fifteen million dollars in damages. Heard was only awarded $2 million in damages by the jury, who found that she was defamed but only on one of the three statements she sued him over.

Insider spoke to two legal experts who thought Heard's case went wrong.

Neama Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, told Insider that Heard had a credibility problem.

Rahmani said that she lost because she lied and exaggerated in the case. Everyone on social media loved him. One of the most hated women in America is Amber Heard. She is the face of a false accusation instead of being the face of the #MeToo movement.

Heard appeared to lie about things she didn't need to lie about, and that cost her credibility in the end. He pointed out that Heard had denied leaking the video of the argument to the media, or that she would be appearing in court with a bruised face to take out a restraining order. Rahmani said it was hard to believe Heard's side of the story that she never fulfilled her pledge to donate her divorce settlement to charity.

Rahmani said that the pictures of Heard's injuries didn't match her descriptions of the beatings.

She told jurors that she thought he was going to kill her. Heard told the jurors that she was kicked many times. Rahmani said that she was talking about an attempted murder or felony assault and the pictures were not in support of a crime.

Rahmani said that when someone is lying and exaggerating, jurors can disregard their testimony and punish her.

David Ring, a partner at the Los Angeles-based law firm Taylor Ring, agreed that Heard lost credibility during the trial.

He said that some of the testimony was not credible.

The case may have come down to who had the bigger star power, and it was clear that Depp won.

I think Johnny Depp is the bigger star and I don't say that lightly. Ring said that star power in a courtroom is important. The jury overlooked his flaws. They said she defamed him and awarded him a lot of money.

Ring said she was not as likable as Johnny Depp. The jury went for Johnny Depp. Johnny Dep won in the court of public opinion, he won in the courtroom, and he is going to win going forward with this.
