It’s been 36 years since Top Gun. The house where Tom Cruise seduced his flight instructor, Kelly McGillis, is now a pie shop on the grounds of Hyatt’s Mission Pacific hotel.
It is a must-see for aviation buffs, as it is close-up aviation scenes and cinematography. That is all it is.
Tom Cruise is a classic. In three of the cases, the defining feature was an ego and lackadaisical style. In the original Top Gun, Maverick's ego was writing checks because he couldn't cash them.
It's a remake of the original that takes you back in time and away from the politics of the 1980s.
The cast is more diverse than the original, but it is still anti-Woke with cliched ethnic characters and women waiting for the heroic men to come back from mission.
The movie doesn't tell you who the enemy is. There is a new threat. Young pilots need guidance. They have to stop an unauthorized facility in the mountains. The Soviets were defeated in 1986. It could be China, the Taliban, or Russia again. The movie isn't even screening in China, which only accepts a limited number of U.S. films, and presumably wouldn't want to highlight a gung ho picture about the U.S. armed forces. We don't get to see Tom Cruise wearing the flag of Taiwan on his jacket.
It's a generic film with a major star with a presence matched perhaps only by George Clooney, so the turnout was surprisingly strong.
After two years of not going to the movies, we all want a summer film. It isn't going to be a classic like the original or cult. Fans will be entertained for 2 hours and 11 minutes. It was a sequel and not a Point Break or Red Dawn remake.
There are some important stories of the day. I keep you up to date on the most interesting writings I find on other sites.

The union representing Chicago Aviation Police and the Chicago Aviation Commissioner have a disagreement. The Chicago Aviation Police dragged Dr. David Dao off the plane after they were called by United.

I am not an expert on guns. I don't own one. I don't want to get into the question of which gun regulations are reasonable or constitutional. A lot of weak arguments are being used in debates. I will focus.
