Thanks to its features related to Rich Communication Services (RCS), the messaging app is one of the best on the market. Businesses bombarding users with promotional messages has caused some problems in India.
It seems that Google has had enough of the spammy ads businesses were sending through their Messages. The company said in a statement that it temporarily turned off the feature to address the problem, which it said violates its policies.

While sending promotional messages through SMS is common for users who sign up through specific businesses, the RCS ads appearing for many Indian users from verified businesses are usually random and financial in nature. They also appeared frequently, as described by one writer, which prompted them to stop using RCS.

It seems as though the problem has been isolated to India, but there is concern over whether this experience will extend to other regions as well. That may not be the case now that the internet giant is trying to address it.
If you are in India, you should be able to use RCS on messages. If you choose, the feature can be disabled and re-enabled.
