The managing director of Clia UK and Ireland has been honoured by the Queen.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Harmer played a pivotal role in the restart of cruising.

Sally Balcombe, chief executive of VisitBritain, and Geoffrey De Bois, chair of the VisitEngland advisory board, both receive CBEs.

The recipients include the chairman of Tourism Northern Ireland, Bernard Donoghue, the chief executive of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, Kurt Janson, and the chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance.

Harry Theochari, the former chair of the Maritime UK, received an OBE for his services to the maritime sector.

I'm very grateful to receive this recognition, and I'm thrilled by it. It has been an incredibly challenging few years for everyone in our sector and the way we have all worked together to overcome such enormous challenges has been inspiring.

I feel privileged every day to work for an industry that employs people from all over the world, people who are passionate about what they do, and creating unforgettable travel experiences.

Kelly Craighead, Clia chief executive, said: "We send our warmest congratulations to Andy on receiving an OBE for services to the maritime sector."

Andy set a fantastic example and showed our industry at its best during the Pandemic.

This is a great honor and a great surprise for Donoghue. It is an enormous privilege to be able to contribute to the recovery, growth and dynamism of tourism and culture, as they have had the most turbulent, challenging few years.

I'm very grateful and touched that this honour also reflects and recognizes those who I work with in the cultural sector.

Boris Johnson said that the Platinum Jubilee is a celebration of the monarch but also of the qualities she possesses. Many of the qualities that she confers this week reflect on all walks of life and to communities across the UK.

I pay tribute to all of the winners. Their stories of courage and compassion inspire us all.
