After 14 years at Meta Platforms, the chief operating officer of the company is stepping down, but will retain a seat on the board. After spending the next few months working with founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to transition her direct reports, Sandberg will leave her post in the fall.
In a separate post, Mark Zuckerberg said that he doesn't plan to replace the role of COO of the company. This will consolidate power of the company under his control, which he has shared with the company's CEO, who was just 23 years old when she joined.
The company has changed its name to Meta and is investing heavily in taking its social technology beyond 2D to virtual reality and augmented reality.
