It is very easy to make. I don't like sog, but I do like a similar pressed sandwich, which is similar to a muffaletta, but has so many ingredients that it has to be pressed overnight. The jambon-beurre can be slapped together before you leave.

Unlike the muffaletta and its cousins, the jambon-buerre doesn't have any small bits. Nothing to fall out of your lap.

The sandwich is as delicious as it is practical. The combination of salty pork and creamy butter is very French and decadent. You only need to use two incredibly rich ingredients to create a salty, creamy bite that doesn't feel heavy.

Buying high-quality bread, butter, and ham makes sense since there are so few ingredients. I used Kerrygold, but the sandwich you see above was made with duck frosting, which is what I had at room temp. If I'm being honest, the Kerrygold is better than a compound.

I like the dry-cured hams, though Parisian style wet-cured ham is traditional. Try to keep the flavors simple and avoid honey ham.

Spread a thick layer of butter on each side before piling on thinly-sliced ham after slicing the baguette horizontally. Wrap it up, take it out, and eat it. Do not add cheese or vegetables. The simplicity of this sandwich is what makes it beautiful. You will get the perfect outdoor meal if you embrace it.
