  • Google has announced that it is merging its Meet and Duo video calling services.
  • Google Duo will soon gain all of Google Meet's features including scheduling, captions, and more.
  • Google Duo will still retain its features and be renamed "Google Meet" later this year.

It looks like the move to combine its video calling services is official. The search giant said it would combine its two video calling apps into a single app.

It will be called: Google Meet. The consumer and workplace focused apps won out in the long run. It is not all bad.

Meet is a better name than Duo and it gets the point across much better. The merger will help simplify things, at least for video chats.

Duo's current features will remain on the app after the transition. Existing messages and history will also remain on the app, so you don't have to worry about losing them.

The features of the two services will be merged into Duo this month. You will be able to schedule meetings and integrate with apps like Gmail and Calendar, live share content, chat in-meeting, have access to real-time caption, and more. Up to 100 members will be supported by meetings.

As part of our mission to build a connected experience for all users, we are excited to bring our video calling and meeting technologies together into a single, powerful, easy-to-use solution.

The company wants to make the transition as smooth as possible. Duo will be renamed and current users will not have to download a new app. The app will be available on both phones and tablets.
