John Madden will appear on the cover of the football video game for the first time since 2000, the company announced Wednesday.
Three covers of Madden were unveiled in a release by Electronic Arts.
Madden, who died in December at the age of 85, won a Super Bowl as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders and as a commentator called NFL games for all four major networks, but perhaps is best-known for lending his name to the video game franchise.
The first cover is a recreation of the first Madden video game, the second is of Madden as Raiders head coach, and the third is of Madden as an analyst.
The Madden NFL series was launched as John Madden Football in 1988 and became one of the most successful video game franchises ever. Madden was paid $150 million to use his name and likeness for the rest of his life. Over the course of its history, the company has sold 130 million copies of the Madden games.
