In a few months after it acquired TweetDeck, it launched new apps for the browser, Windows, and Mac. The web browser version will be the only one left with Musk's purchase still pending. After July 1st, the Mac version of the app will no longer be available.

Power users who use the app to monitor different feeds of information got the message via a banner notification this morning. The public testing of an overhauled version of TweetDeck has been going on since last year, and it's thought that the Mac app will not be retained as a wrapper for the web interface going forward. New CEO Parag Agrawal recently fired a few leaders within the company, and Musk has floated the idea of expanding the use of subscription fees for revenue as opposed to advertising. While Musk has yet to take control, it's unclear how those moves could affect this product, and narrowing availability could push more features that appear in the Twitter Blue subscription or similar packages.

We're saying goodbye to TweetDeck for the Mac app to focus on making TweetDeck even better and testing our new Preview. July 1 is the last day it'll be available.

You can still use TweetDeck on web and more invites to try the Preview will be rolling out over the next few months!

After going years without adding features, the native Mac app of the social networking site died in the year.

Unlike the 2012 debacle, when it suddenly pulled the chair on third-party apps, in 2022 it will allow third-party clients that are viable options, but for many.

Users who want to stick with the app but prefer to keep it out of their browser tabs have other options. The developer BZG offers free trials of Unite for macOS or Coherence X, which allow users to turn web apps into native applications. I've used the donation-supported version of the web app for several years on Windows, macOS, and Chrome, and it's also available on the Microsoft Store.
