The company is going back to its roots.

John Madden will be on the cover of Madden NFL 23, according to the video game company. June 1 is being recognized as Madden Day in honor of the game's first release on June 1, 1988.

Madden was on the cover of every edition of the game, but his last appearance was on the 2000 version. Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes were featured recently.

Madden will have three unique covers this year to recognize his greatness as a coach, broadcasters and video game icon.

The mode with two versions of Madden coaching opposing teams in the 1970s Oakland Coliseum will be included in the game.

Madden died in December at the age of 85.
