In an interview with Newsmax, Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, said that his country is not interested in attacking Russian territory and only intends to use foreign supplied weapons to drive out invading forces from its own land.
Zelensky told Newsmax that the fighting is taking place on its own territory and not on Russia.
Zelensky said that the primary goal of the Ukrainian government was to use foreign military aid to buy weapons that could hit targets as far as 100 kilometers.
Zelensky's statement came after President Joe Biden said the U.S. wouldn't send weapons to Ukraine.
In an op-ed published in the New York Times, Biden said that the U.S. is sending advanced rocket systems and munitions to Ukraine to help it hit targets on the battlefield.
Biden said the U.S. was not interested in a long conflict with Russia and was only interested in hurting it.
The Kremlin dismissed Biden's contention that it was assessing the threat of these rockets targeting Russian territory and implied that such an incident could raise the risk of a conflict between Russia and the U.S.
Berlin will send its most modern air defense system to Ukraine in order to protect against Russian airstrikes, according to the Chancellor. The German, Swedish and Norwegian militaries are currently using the Iris-T surface-launched missile.
Almost $5 billion. According to the New York Times, that's the total amount of military aid Washington sent to Ukraine since the start of Russia's invasion in February. This includes Biden's latest package worth $700 million, which also includes Javelin anti-tank missiles, Stinger anti-air missiles, radars, drones and Soviet-era Mi-17 helicopters.
At a time when the conflict in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region continues to intensify, the latest round of foreign military aid arrives. The last major city in the Luhansk province that was not under Russian control has been taken over by Russian forces. The governor of the region told the Associated Press that around 13,000 people still remain in the city, even though most of the residential buildings have been destroyed. Russia's success in Sievierodonetsk comes after its offensive in other parts of the Donbas region was defeated by Ukrainian counter- attacks and a failed river crossing.
Western nations will send more arms to Ukraine.
