When they played together at the U17 World Cup, their roles were the same as they are now, with Wright and Pulisic playing the same role.

We played a lot of games together in the youth national teams. It is great to have him back in, first of all, seeing him do so well at club level, and second of all, having him in here.

I'm so excited for him because he's going to get his opportunity. I know he will use the opportunity.

At youth level, they crossed paths with each other, but they were also teammates at the same club. Wright had more success at youth level, but McKennie had more success at senior level.

"I think it's beautiful, I didn't have an easy path through the national team, especially in the youth." At the youth age, we had a different story. Finding his own path to get back in here is something that I can kind of relate to, because I saw some players knocked down, and some players were gone, and I think just for him, finding his own path to get back in here is something that is inspiring.

It is wonderful and exciting to see him in here, and sharing the same story at the same time.

Wright was on loan at Sandhausen and VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands, and he was unable to find the net at all three stops. He scored 15 goals in 35 league and cup appearances for Turkish Super Lig side Antalyaspor last season, which got him back in the national team frame.

I respect people who have not had it easy and given to them, and everyone is on their own path. He has had ups and downs and to come out the other side is impressive.
