The chain is already running out of ingredients for a popular dish, which may make it hard for customers to find a Mexican Pizza.

On May 31 it was reported that it was facing shortages as the item was more popular than it expected.

The chain wrote that it would need some time to replenish its supplies, and that employees were working as fast as possible to make it available to customers again.

Mexican pizza was one of a number of beloved items that were cut from the menu in 2020.

Kalinowski Equity Research CEO Mark Kalinowski told Insider at the time that removing and re-adding Mexican pizza was a way to see how much customers cared about the dish. He told Insider that it was removed to see if customers wanted it back.

Kalinowski thinks it will sell better this time around. The demand for Mexican pizzas was seven times higher than the company anticipated, leading to shortages.

When dishes like Mexican pizza or potatoes return, they have a built-in following. The chain does not have to convince customers to try something new. They have been anticipating the return for months or even years.

The Mexican pizza will return to the menu permanently when supplies return to normal.
