Remember when scientists were able to grow plants in Moon soil?

Don't get too excited for the lunar salad just yet. The author of a recent study detailing the experiment brought us down to Earth with a description of just how bad it was.

Ferl told the magazine that plants grown in lunar soil tended to be smaller and contained markers of stress.

Do these things look good? We are not sure.

Stressed Out

The plants used in the experiment, which are flowering in Europe and Asia, did not seem to like it.

Ferl told Astronomy that you can't just throw seeds out on the Moon and ask them to grow.

On the other hand, it is a huge improvement that the plants were able to grow at all. It seems like we are still a long way from being able to grow food in a lunar greenhouse.
