The NBA replay center overturned Max Strus 3-pointer in the third quarter of the Eastern Conference finals. Speaking for the first time since Sunday, the Miami Heat guard admitted that the call is still bothering him.
Strus said thank you for pissing him off again, but he didn't know how that was called. They say they have a rule to remove the human error from the game and the video. Hopefully I don't get fined, I don't know.
The call came with 11:04 remaining in the third quarter, when Strus knocked down a 3-pointer deep in the corner that cut the Celtics lead to 56-54.
The NBA replay center in Secaucus, New Jersey overturned the call after the Celtics put together another run of their own. After the game, the Heat coach said he was "in shock" after the points were taken off the board.
Strus said that he was not happy about it and that they could not really do anything. It definitely changed the game. I think it went from a six-point game to an 11-point game with no time left on the clock, so it is what it is. I am not happy about it, but you just have to move on.
The play that appeared to show Strus touching the out-of-bounds line, and will forever be ruled a turnover, will be a case study in the future.
The call isn't the reason the Heat lost, but he was upset with the timing of it.
If it happens the way it used to, I'm okay with it. They would look at it at the next foul or break and notice it, but it would probably take 10 minutes of real time for someone to check on it.
It was so unusual for us to be grinding and then start to get some momentum, and then it was like, "Oh, hey, by the way, take away that 3." with no explanation," said Spoelstra. That is not the complaint side of it. Who knows if that would have changed anything.
