A federal jury on Tuesday found former Hilary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann not guilty of lying to the FBI about his ties to Democrats when he shared allegations against Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential race, marking a major loss for Special Counsel John Durham, who has spent three years looking for wrongdoing
The jury deliberated for about six hours Friday and again Tuesday before acquitting Sussmann, who was the first person charged by Durham.
According to prosecutors, Sussmann lied when he said he wasn't acting on behalf of Clinton when he gave the FBI information about a potential communications channel.
Prosecutors told the jury that the case against him was political and that he had a license to lie to the FBI.
He had pleaded not guilty and claimed that he had turned over the information to a concerned citizen and not to the Clinton campaign.
This is not a finished story.
