According to sources, the Cleveland Cavaliers are hiring a new assistant coach.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings head coach joined the staff of J.B. Bickerstaff.

He played parts of his final two seasons as a player for the Cleveland Cavaliers and brings championship coaching and playing experience to the team.

The play-in tournament was a dramatic rise in the conference under Bickerstaff. The young core of Cleveland, including All-Star guard Darius Garland, All-Rookie forward/center Evan Mobley, and budding 7-footer Jarrett Allen, are expected to make the team a contender next season.

In 2015, Steve Kerr was the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, and he had a staff with him. He won two titles as a member of the Lakers.

In December, Bickerstaff signed a long-term extension.
