Mexico's Sergio Perez has signed a two-year contract extension with Red Bull that will keep him with the team until 2024.

He won the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday and is third in the driver race.

After seven races, Red Bull is at the top of the Constructors' Championship with help from Perez and Verstappen.

The team boss said keeping Perez was a no-brainer.

After his most successful season in Formula One, Perez joined Red Bull at the end of 2020 and finished fourth in the drivers' championship.

The extension was announced by Red Bull on Tuesday, but Perez signed before the race in Monaco, where he claimed his fourth podium finish of the season.

It has been an incredible week for me, winning the Monaco Grand Prix is a dream for any driver and then to announce I will continue with the team until 2024 makes me very happy.

I am very proud to be a part of this team and I feel at home here. We are working well together and my relationship with Max is helping drive us forward even more.

The Mexican is operating at a standard similar to that of the reigning world champion, according to Horner.

He said that he has proved himself to be a magnificent team player but as his level of comfort has grown he has become a real force to be reckoned with at the sharp end of the grid.

The gap to world champion Max has closed significantly after he took another step this year.
