Air passengers are facing ongoing disruption ahead of the Jubilee bank holiday weekend as holiday giant Tui cancels more flights.

Tui blamed staff shortages at Manchester Airport for the cancellation of six flights a day until the end of June.

Two million people are expected to fly over the bank holiday, making it one of the busiest periods of the year.

The airports reported high passenger numbers.

As the half-term break began, thousands of passengers across the UK have seen flights canceled and delays at airports.

The industry cut thousands of jobs during the first two years of the Pandemic. As travel picked up again, airports and airlines struggled to keep up.

It's awful, so many people who haven't had a holiday for three years, have to go to the half term week and discover that they don't have a holiday

The affected customers will receive a full refund for their holidays as well as an extra gesture of goodwill, according to the company.

The decision is disappointing but the company believes it is necessary to provide stability and better customer service at Manchester Airport.

Manchester Airport said that Tui and Swissport, which provide ground services such as baggage handling, are experiencing temporary staff shortages.

The return of plane journeys following the lifting of Covid restrictions is definitely a positive development, but it also brings with it resource challenges in the aviation industry.

We are very sorry for any delays and disruptions passengers have experienced.

A number of airports had high traffic on Tuesday. Glasgow said the security lines were longer than usual in the morning.

The airport is more busy than it has been in more than two years as passenger demand continues to increase.

Over the next week, Stansted expects 80,000 passengers a day.

The busy half-term break coincides with the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday and Lord Parkinson questioned the air travel industry's readiness.

He told Sky News that travel companies should make sure that people are able to get away on holiday.

We have been urging them to make sure they have enough staff.

In April the UK's aviation watchdog wrote to airports and airlines to express concern over the impact of staff shortages on international travel.

The Civil Aviation Authority's chief executive warned that late notice cancellation and excessive delays at airports were distressing for consumers and could affect confidence just when passengers were returning to flying.
