The head of the European Union's executive arm said on Monday that EU leaders reached an agreement on Monday over a Russian oil ban, which is aimed at punishing Russian leadership for its invasion of Ukraine.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday that this will effectively cut around 90% of oil imports from Russia to the EU by the end of the year.
This year, world leaders have placed penalties on Russia in order to weaken its position and end its atrocities under President Putin.
The EU and the US have imposed sanctions against Russia, including a ban on iron and steel imports.
The United Nations has recorded over 4,000 deaths and over 4,000 injuries in Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February. The UN's Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights believes that the figures are much higher.
