Kody Clemens will begin his MLB career wearing No. 21, his father's number with the Red Sox and Blue Jays

According to MLB.com, Clemens is the club's 17th overall prospect.

In 45 games for Toledo this season, he is hitting.283 with eight homers, 31 runs, 52 strikeouts, and an.884 OPS. He hit 18 homers in 97 Triple-A games last season.

Manager A.J. Hinch told reporters on Monday that they don't need him to be superman. He has performed his way here.

OutfielderRobbie Grossman was placed on the 10-day injured list with a neck strain.

IfClemens can do what he did in Triple-A, it will be a nice boost for us and a nice addition to the lineup. Replacing Robbie, who is all outfielder, with an infielder is a challenge, but his bat is what got him here.

Toledo has played first base, second base, third base, and left field this season. He played 24 games in right field for Toledo last season, so he has the ability to operate as a true utility man for the Tigers.

His primary position has been second base in his young career, so he will likely serve as a corner infielder and corner outfielder during his time in Detroit.

Hinch said that they have been careful with when to call him up. His name has been thrown around a few times. We are going to force him into the lineup.
