Iga Swiatek fought back from a first set deficit to beat China's Zheng Qinwen and reach the French Open quarter-finals.

Swiatek celebrated his 21st birthday by beating world number 74 Zheng.

Swiatek extended her winning streak to 32 matches and now faces 11th seed Jessica Pegula.

In her fourth-round match earlier on Monday, Pegula came back from a set down to beat Begu.

The American is the top seed in the women's singles and has faced only unseeded opponents so far.

After reaching a clay-court final in Madrid, Pegula made the quarter-finals of the French Open for the first time.

She has to stop Swiatek at the place where she won her first Grand Slam title in 2020.

Swiatek has not dropped a set on the Paris clay, but she has shown signs of fallibility in her past two matches.

Swiatek struggled with her service games and her forehand was not very good as she faced a rising star in her French Open debut.

In the first set, Zheng fought back from a 5-2 deficit, and from the same deficit in the tie-break, to threaten a stunning upset.

Swiatek had not dropped a set since April 23, when she lost the opener against Russia in the semi-finals.

Swiatek won her next 18 sets, and started the fight back against Zheng with two breaks in the second set.

At the changeover, Zheng asked for treatment on her right thigh and reappeared with a lot of strapping.

The Chinese player was broken at the start of the decider and that led to a one-sided set.

In the third, her physical condition appeared to marginally improve and she was able to put pressure on Swiatek's serve.

After almost three hours on the court, the world number one needed to save two break points and win the last three games to seal the victory.

Who else is through?

Veronika Kudermetova

Veronika Kudermetova came from behind to defeat Madison Keys and advance to the French Open quarter-finals.

The 29th seed, Kudermetova, beat the 22nd seed, Keys, 6-1, 6-3 to reach the last eight at a Grand Slam for the first time.

The world's 20th ranked player recorded a straight-set win.

Iga Swiatek

The 28th seed, Italy, was defeated by the second seed, Kasatkina.

After four matches, the 25-year-old is yet to lose a set.

In Paris, Kudermetova beat third seed Paula Badosa in the previous round and then battled back to beat Keys on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The first set was dominated by Keys.

Kudermetova, 25, was able to level the contest after an early break of serve, but the Russian secured victory in style with four successive breaks in the third.
