Pitaka's latest case is MagSafe-style convenient charging on an iPad Mini. The MagEZ Case Pro for the sixth-generation iPad Mini has magnetic points on the back that can be used with the included pad. You can use the MagEZ Charging Stand to elevate the tablet and provide a second charging spot for a phone or headphones.
There are drawbacks to this approach. Pitaka's case doesn't use the magnets built into the back of the iPad Mini, so you have to use the magnetic pad to charge the device. Don't transfer data over a wired connection while the case is on. The case is made of stiff rubber with a carbon fiber-like weave pattern, which should provide protection from most average drops, but it isn't the most rugged thing I've seen. It doesn't cover the screen like Apple's folio cases, so you'll want to pair it with a screen protectors.
On the plus side, the case allows for the Apple Pencil to be charged on the right side, and there is a little accessory that holds it in place better when you toss the iPad in a bag.
The MagEZ is easy to charge, as you just need to place the case near the base and let the magnets do their job. The magnetic attraction is strong, and the stand will hold the iPad in either landscape or portrait orientation. The stand does not have a height adjustment.
Pitaka recommends at least a 45W power delivery brick if you want to charge the iPad and phone at the same time on the stand. The base supports up to 15W charging with other Qi devices.
The case and stand are not cheap, so you have to be very committed to magnetic charging to make this setup worthwhile. If that isn't a blocker for you, both accessories should be available today.
