Nottingham Forest fans in front of the words 'You are Premier League;
Nottingham Forest last played in the Premier League in 1999

After leading them back to the top flight for the first time in 23 years, Steve Cooper said that they would stay in the league.

Everyone connected to Forest deserves a promotion.

We know that we are a big football club with a lot of history and tradition. Cooper told the radio station that they stood on that.

I have always said that we should try to create a next positive chapter.

This is a day to be proud of for everyone connected to the football club. They should be back in the premier league.

Forest became the first European Cup winners to drop to the third division of a domestic league when they were demoted to League One in 2005.

It was a low point for a club that went from the old Second Division in 1977 to win the English title a year later, before going on to win back-to-back European Cups.

The return to the top flight came in their first appearance at Wembley for 30 years and at the end of the season, they spent 46 of the first 52 days in the bottom three.

Forest made their worst start to a season in over 100 years under Chris Hughton, picking up one point from seven games.

'Hard to get off the canvas'

After eight games, Cooper had their first win of the season but were still bottom of the table.

No team in the second tier picked up more points than the Reds after that, as an exciting, attacking brand of football under the Welsh tactician catapulted them up the table and into the play-off spots.

It is hard to get off the canvas when you are at the bottom.

There is no doubt that we deserve to be promoted.

After leading his hometown club back to the top flight, Joe Worrall said he felt "on top of the world".

It has been a difficult time for the club, but Forest are back in the top flight.

I am looking forward to being on Match of the Day.
