The National Rifle Association was slammed by a Republican congressman.

He said during an interview on ABC's This Week on Sunday that the NRA has become a grifting scam.

Efforts to restrict access to guns have been opposed by the National Rifle Association. It tried to get Texas to lower the legal age for owning a handgun to 18 from 21. The age requirements need to be raised.

He said that the gun rights organization, Gun Owners of America, is being completed by the National Rifle Association. He noted that the organization called him "Rino" after he called for banning devices that give weapons rapid-fire capabilities.

When asked by Jonathan Karl how he went from being right in line with the gun lobby to calling for a change in age limits, Kinzinger said he was getting sick of seeing mass shootings.

He said that he is a strong defender of the second amendment.

The mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas that left 19 children and two adults dead was not far from the annual convention of the National Rifle Association. Over 14 acres of the latest guns and gear were on display at the convention.
