Not everyone is in agreement with the plan to open a drive-in theater and diner combo.

Several Hollywood residents and Shakey's Pizza lovers have taken to social media this week to complain about the electric auto maker taking over the location at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Orange Drive.

Esotouric's Secret Los Angeles said on social media that the Shakey's opened in 1964 and put birthday customers' names on the marquee. They shared a photo of a cute diner.

The group said goodbye to Shakey's Pizza on Santa Monica Blvd. Happy hour and birthday marquees are no longer popular in the area. The Supercharger EV charging station was demolished by the company. This is a Route 66 loss.

RIP to WeHo's Santa Monica Blvd Shakey's Pizza, 1964-2002. Locals fave happy hour & birthday marquees no more. Tesla demolishing for restaurant, drive-in and Supercharger EV charging station. This is a Rte 66 loss. https://t.co/px1vGfm0gl pic.twitter.com/0gJGQQiFDy

A senior editor at Eater LA said that part of the outrage is due to the demolition of the building.

Not to bury the lede but is Musk going to open a Shakey's Pizza in Santa Monica?

The location is across the street from a now-gone recording studio, and other people say the food simply cannot be replicated.

Old vs. New

Although Shakey's is a chain restaurant, Hollywood isn't the only city mourning the loss of icons.

Electric vehicles becoming so popular they are spawning new businesses is exciting. Losing cultural landmarks that define our hometowns and favorite cities is heartbreaking.
