Long rally ends in match point for Coco Gauff (0:26)

Coco Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open. There is a time and a place.

10:21 AM ET

American teenager Coco Gauff hit one backhand around the net post in the first set to earn a spot in the French Open quarterfinals for the second year in a row.

The American teenager took over from 4-all in the first set and went on to win.

Gauff burst onto the scene at Wimbledon when she was 15 years old, becoming the youngest player in tournament history to beat Venus Williams.

She made it to the Grand Slam quarterfinals for the first time in Paris in 2021.

The 18th-seeded Gauff will face either the US Open champion or the 23rd-seeded Jil Teichmann.

The US Open runner-up, Leylah Fernandez, advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open for the first time with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over the American.

The 19-year-old had more than twice as many winners as unforced errors and continued her run of impressive returning at the tournament. Through four matches, she has won 23 of her opponents service games.

This trip to Paris was the first time that Fernandez had won more than two straight main-draw matches on clay.

The Canadian made it all the way to the final at the US Open last year before losing to a pair of teenagers.

The youngest player to win a title in the history of the women's tennis tour is 17 years old and will play Italy's Martina Trevisan at the French Open.

At the age of 17, she was a semifinalist at the French Open. The American eliminated Naomi Osaka in the first round.

The 59th-ranked Trevisan made it to the quarterfinals for the second time. She won the last four games and beat Sasnovich.

The second set was broken at love by Sasnovich as part of a stretch in which Trevisan collected 13 of 15 points.

She won her first title a week before the French Open began and is now on a nine- match winning streak. Straight sets were where eight of the victories came from.

She made a surprise run to the French Open quarterfinals in 2020 but lost to Iga Swiatek.

In six other Grand Slam appearances, Trevisan has lost in the first or second round.

The 47th-ranked Sasnovich beat two of the best players in the world to get to the fourth round.

In 28 major tournaments, Sasnovich has never made it to the quarterfinals.
