The upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may have an always-on display. According to a report from Mark Gurman, Apple could introduce a feature in the next version of its operating system that would allow the phone to display a limited amount of information even when it is locked.

The Apple Watch Series 5 and up has an always-on mode that works the same way as the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. It is not clear if the new iPhone will use the same low-temperature polycrystalline oxide display that Apple uses in newer Watch models. These low-powered screens are built to keep devices from consuming too much power, which is a huge part of always-on mode.

Android devices have supported always-on display for years

Analysts predicted last year that the iPhone 13 would come with an always-on display. Many of the devices that are made for the operating system already support always-on mode. When the phone is locked, the always-on display on certain devices can show the time, battery level, and more.

Gurman expects the same features in the next version of the operating system, includingwidget-like capabilities and always-on display.

The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is where Apple is set to announce a number of other changes. Gurman believes that Apple could introduce enhanced windowing and multitasking on the iPad. Apple may be working on a feature that will allow users to freely resizing windows, according to findings from developer Steve Troughton-Smith. Gurman predicts that Apple will add new audio features to Messages, as well as changing the System Preferences menu to make it more like the settings app.

We won't have to wait long to see how many of these predictions come true.
