Chris Jacobs said Friday that he would vote for an assault weapons ban in Congress if it came to a vote on the House floor.

I want to be transparent about where I am in Congress. If an assault weapons ban bill came to the floor, I would vote for it, said Jacobs, who represents New York's 27th District.

He supports raising the minimum age for sales of some guns to 21, a limit on the magazine capacity of guns, and a ban on body armor sales, The Hill reported.

The recent shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and his hometown of Buffalo, New York, have changed Jacobs' stance on assault weapons.

There was a shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo on May 14. Nineteen of the 21 people who died in the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting were children.

Jacobs comments are out of line with the stances of many Republicans.

Ted Cruz said he supported more armed cops at schools, rather than implementing gun control, despite receiving criticism for his comments on Uvalde.

Following the mass shooting in Uvalde, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene came out against gun control. We need to return to God.
