Thousands of fans were unable to access the stadium due to large crowds of supporters outside in the build-up to the game, leaving swathes of their section empty less than half an hour before the game was due to start.
The Real Madrid section was almost full an hour before the game.
Fans were forced to wait outside as police tried to control access to the stadium, according to sources.
The game was delayed because so many supporters were still trying to get into the stadium in the final moments before kick-off.
