A passenger's phone caught fire on a Wizz Air jet just minutes before it was to leave for Hungary, forcing the pilot to abandon the flight.

The plane was taxiing to the runway when passengers noticed smoke coming from a Chinese- branded phone.

All passengers were able to get off the plane after it turned around and returned to the terminal. Their luggage was also removed.

Varga was a passenger on the flight. She told Insider that the crew knew how to handle the situation and reassured those on board.

She said that they knew when they saw smoke that they wouldn't be able to get the last train.

According to Varga, the crew taped over a patch of carpet that had been burned by a phone.

Two passengers did not want to get back on the plane.

It was not clear what caused the phone to catch fire.

The crew on an Alaska Airlines flight from New Orleans to Seattle had to use fire extinguishers when a phone overheated on the plane.

The cabin became hazy from the smoke and passengers had to use slides to escape.

Wizz Air was contacted, but the airport wouldn't comment.
