Hillary Clinton and other Democrats have been sued by Donald Trump, who alleges that they tried to rig the election. They tried to prove that the campaign was getting help from Russia, according to Trump.

A jury began deliberations Friday in the federal criminal trial of a prominent political and national security lawyer charged with lying to the FBI over an alleged link between Donald Trump and a Russian bank.

The closing arguments were presented to the jury on Friday morning. The charges were strongly challenged by Sussmann.

The jury documentation from Perkins Coie, the law firm where Sussmann worked, was shown to them by the prosecutor. DNC records show that the firm billed the Clinton campaign for meetings and other communications in the summer and fall of 2016 that were related to what was described in the billing records as a confidential project.

James Baker, the general counsel of the FBI, received a text from his friend, who had once worked for the Justice Department, because he had his own FBI headquarters security pass.

He told Baker he wanted to help the Bureau, not on behalf of a client or company.

On the next day, Baker met with the FBI director.

Two prosecutors on Durham's team reviewed an extensive chronology of message traffic entered into evidence that showed the firm of Sussmann repeatedly billing the Clinton campaign both before and after his Sept. 19 meeting with Baker for work related to the confidential project.

During the trial, Baker told the jury that he was 100% confident that he was not contacting Baker on behalf of a particular client.

Baker said that he was not here on behalf of any particular client. During their meeting, Baker was given memory sticks and a sheaf of printed documents detailing allegations about computer message traffic between Alfa Bank and the Trump Organization.

The meeting is the focus of the indictment, but no written notes were produced by Baker or prosecutors. After the meeting, Baker contacted Bill Priestap, the FBI's counterintelligence chief. Baker testified that he told Priestap that the issue was urgent and that Sussmann was not representing a particular client.

The notes of the conversation taken by Priestap that were entered into evidence and cited by prosecutors during closing statements stated that Sussmann did represent the DNC. The FBI opened a full-scale investigation of the alleged Alfa Bank/Trump link, though investigators concluded before the election that the allegations lacked substance.

Less than 12 hours after his meeting with Baker, Sussmann recorded 4.5 hours of work on written material and a confidential project. The prosecutor said that two months later, the billing records were revised to show that he billed the Clinton campaign 3.3 hours for work on that day.

Defense lawyers were going to try and convince you that this is a misunderstanding, but that you should reach a common sense conclusion based on the written message from the client and Baker.

Sean Berkowitz, the defense lawyer, said that the prosecution was trying to misdirect the jury because they lacked evidence.

Berkowitz said that he believed that the data from the legal client of Sussmann was reliable and credible, and that he was an expert on the kinds of data systems at the center of the Alfa Bank allegations. The data was given to a New York Times reporter.

He said there was a dispute between the defense and prosecutors over what Sussmann said to Baker. He said that Baker had said that he didn't remember details of the conversation.

Berkowitz said that Baker was told to take whatever action he wanted, and that there was a difference between having a client and going somewhere on their own.

The Clinton campaign manager and a Perkins Coie lawyer who was the top attorney for the Clinton campaign testified that they did not authorize or instruct the Alfa Bank allegations to be taken to the FBI.

He wanted to know if Baker was 100 percent confident of what was said at the Sept. 19 meeting.

Andrew DeFillipis, another member of Durham's prosecution team, told the jury that five months after going to the FBI, they met with officials.

Judge Christopher Cooper told the jury that they wouldn't be able to make a decision on the case until next Tuesday at the earliest, and that he had to leave the courthouse Friday afternoon.

The first case that Durham's team has taken to trial is the prosecution of Sussmann. Last year, Kevin Clinesmith, a one-time FBI lawyer, pleaded guilty to doctoring an email that other officials used to justify snooping on a Trump campaign adviser and was sentenced to a year of probation.

The false statement charges brought by Durham are still pending against the Russian who was a source for some of the allegations against Trump.
