Kimpton has a pretty cool concept where you can receive perks for sharing a phrase at check-in. A new password has been launched for the summer, after Kimpton had a password for the winter.
I wanted to talk about what the password is, share my experience using it, and pose a question to Kimpton regulars about the least cringeworthy way to say it.
There are a variety of things that make Kimpton different from other IHG brands. The social password is one of those things. If you use social media to say when you check-in, you'll get something extra.
The new Kimpton password is stay cool, and it is valid for stays through September 5, 2022. When you check in at a Kimpton property, you will receive a surprise.
For those who are curious about what happens when you say the Kimpton password, I stayed at the Kimpton EPIC Miami in late 2021. I was able to use the free night award I received with the card, it was a good value.
I wondered what the benefit would be if I used the password. I gave the password to the agent. He brought out a game show-style wheel at the end of the check-in experience. It must have gone around for about 30 seconds if I spun too hard. I landed on the tile and spun around.
The prize was free parking when I spun again. I had a car and was staying for two nights. I used the Kimpton password and it saved me $100.
Some of the other prizes include a free welcome drink, free breakfast, free snacks, and a free movie. I guess you don't win anything, there are a few empty squares. I am not sure what the alarm clock, car tipping over, or postcard of Miami will do for you. I think those are awesome prizes, and I got a great reward.
It's cute that the Kimpton EPIC Miami makes a game of this. There is a lot of inconsistency when it comes to this benefit. Some hotels provide perks like an upgrade, free parking, etc., while other hotels provide a 19 cent branded koozie.
It's great that this is still around, given that it has become more popular. It used to be a good way to encourage people to follow Kimpton on social media.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds the idea of saying a password at check-in weird. It is fun to compare notes about how people share their passwords. It's awkward to just blurt out the password.
When I used this for my stay, I thought I was supposed to use the social password.
Kimpton's social password is "stay cool" through September 5, 2022. If you stay at a Kimpton, you can take advantage of the surprise.
When I used the password the last time, I got to spin a wheel at check-in and get free parking, which was a value of $44 per night.
What did you think about using the Kimpton password?
