In a new paper published in the journal, researchers point out that the nine non-terrestrial artifacts couldn't have been space debris or satellites.

The team was led by Beatriz Villarroel, who is also involved in Harvard's Galileo Project.

The researchers concluded in a previous paper that the lights couldn't have come from the plates that were contaminated.

Even if aliens aren't behind the phenomenon, Villaroel and her team argued in a third paper that the odd artifacts merit further attention, regardless of their origin.
